Unraveled and Entwined
Melissa Zarem and Ann Reichlin
Opening Saturday March 15th 2 -5pm in the Judith Holliday Gallery of Kitchen
Theatre Company.
We are pleased to present Unraveled and Entwined, an exhibition bringing together the
art work of Ann Reichlin and Melissa Zarem. These artists share a playful aesthetic,
where objects and images coalesce through movement, repetition or impulse.
Unexpected raw materials or marks are woven and refashioned, moving beyond their
original histories and meanings. Reichlin adopts a vocabulary of industrial remnants
including rusted metal, congealed paint cans, wire and fencing. Zarem layers on
patterns, smears, visual articulations and collections of delicate lines, all gaining force
until they reach the surface as a cohesive whole. Each artist tells a story that happens
in time. The images are familiar, fragile, yet impossible to define. Zarem and Reichlin
invite us to consider the hidden process behind the surface and to connect with the
organic, evolving nature of art.
