Margarett Perry

Director, Polishing Shakespeare

Margarett Perry is thrilled to be back at The Kitchen Theatre Company where she has directed more than 25 productions since first coming here in 2006 with Clean Alternatives by Brian Dykstra. Some KTC favorites include Private Lives (the first production in the new theatre!), The Thanksgiving Play, Motherfucker with the Hat, Sunset Baby, Cock, Old Times, A Marriage Minuet and world premieres by Brian Parks (The House), Rob Ackerman (Call Me Waldo), Rachel Axler (Archeology) and 6 by Brian Dykstra (The Two of You, Strangerhorse, The Jesus Factor, Selling Out, Ho!, A Play On Words). Margarett has directed and developed new work ON-Broadway and in regional theatres across the country as well as in Scotland and London. Recent favorites include Shrek the Musical (Connecticut Rep), A Doll’s House, Part 2 (Hudson Stage), the world premieres of Born in East Berlin by Rogelio Martinez and Seared by Theresa Rebeck both at San Francisco Playhouse and Brian Dykstra’s hip-hop play, Used to Was (Maybe Did) with Center Theatre Group. Perry is also a regular at The Human Race Theatre where she has directed numerous productions including Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, One Slight Hitch, The Revolutionists and the world premiere of Banned from Baseball by Patricia O’Hara. Margarett is the Artistic Director of Twilight Theatre Company whose 2024 season included 3 productions at 59E59 Theaters—the sold-out extended ON-Broadway run of The Rosenberg Strange/Fruit Project by John Jiler, Appraisal by Tim Marriott and Watson: The Final Problem by Bert Coules. Twilight also produce sold out runs of Polishing Shakespeare by Brian Dykstra and Plotters by Brian Parks at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. During the shutdown, Margarett ventured into the short film and music video world for passion projects such as #Hashtag That- Say Their Name (from the musical Crazy Make Crazy), Time Passes by Brian Dykstra for the Resident Acting Company and This Doesn’t Work written & performed by Darian Dauchan and Brian Dykstra—watch at www.artisactivism.net. She also began exploring watercolor and her work was licensed by the New York Historical Society and was a finalist in 2020 Brush & Lyre Prize.
