Cheatle's non-representational paintings are influenced by open skies, worked earth, shared histories and the passage of time. Some are built from layers of sand, mortar, plaster, water-based paints, charcoal and earth, while others are simply collections of marks made on fields of color. Through the history of working on a canvas may emerge a story told in lines, shapes, colors and texture.
